Throughout my years of school and work I’ve gained valuable skills in different technologies and languages, but these technologies and languages are something that anyone can learn given time. The value of a teammate doesn’t come from the buzzwords they say or the extent of their knowledge, instead it comes from how much of a team player they are… How well they fit the culture of their situation. With a focus on teamwork, motivation, and intelligence it is my personal goal to be an ideal team player that turns a good situation, into a great situation.
My storyYears ago I found myself in a position that I didn't want to be in. I was struggling through undergrad because all I wanted to do is sit around and play video games. My grades were suffering so much that I decided to take a semester off and my brother in-law helped me get a job stocking shelves at Target. For about a year I woke up at 5:30am, and mindlessly threw boxes around and put their contents on the shelves (I was a "bowler", I literally threw boxes around). During this time I grew up. It occured to me how hard my parents worked to give me everything that they could, including doing above and beyond to pay for my undergrad degree. Per Sir Isaac Newton, every action has an equal and opposite reaction, and it was my responsibility to give back to them everything that they gave to me. With this new found motivation I went back to school and worked as hard as I could. I brought a GPA that was barely above a 2.0 up to a 3.2 by the time I graduated. With this hard work and determination, I put myself in positions to get experience before I graduated, which landed me in a job doing full stack web development. I had an opportunity to work in this position part time, and I took it. I went back to grad school to get my MS in CS, which opened a whole new set of opportunities for me.
