This was another one of my, "Oh, I'm bored lets write some code." moments. I was playing Minecraft at the time, and I wanted to see if I could replicate a Minecraft style map using greyscale images. I took some images off of my buddies facebook, turned them to greyscale, and ran them through the algorithm to produce fairly accurate maps.
I had originally wrote the algorithm to just create the map, but I figured I would color based on height as well, just to see what would turn out, and the results were actually pretty impressive. I only use 5 different colors to draw the images, but they still turned out great. Special thanks to my friends Robert, Charles, and Ed for use of their photos.
